Just like Jellal and Gerald, if we listen to the japanese pronunciation it is pronounced as Jerrar therefore his english name is spelled Jellal because the majority assumed they were using the L for the letter R, some people assumed it is just a japanese version of Gerald but the japanese voice actor should has said Jerardo since there is no L in the japanese language and words ending with the letter D such as the word Guild is pronounced in the japanese anime as Guirdo. There’s an old language myth that claims posh stands for “port out, starboard home.” According to the tale, the first posh people were wealthy British ship passengers who could afford to book two cabins on their trips to India-one on the port side of the ship, the other on the starboard-to ensure that they had the most comfortable trips, away from the sun, when they headed out and when they returned home. In the end majority of people just stick to one version of the name to avoid inconsistencies when referring to a specific person. You can also see these inconsistencies when reading the fairy tail manga since different websites translates their version of the manga on their own resulting in multiple spellings of a character's name.

It has something to do with the author and japanese voice actors having japanese pronunciation and japanese people not knowing the right english spelling for the fairy tail characters thats why various japanese fairy tail products have misspelled names, you can see in the anime where they misspelled erza's name on a grave as elsa, lucy being called rushi or carla being called sharuru, then in the english anime the english voice actor pronounces japanese and english names with their own accent without considering how the japanese people pronounce them such as Erza being called Urza.
